THE JUNCTION | 12.4
Happy Easter everyone!
I hope you are having a great day.
This week we are going to reflect on the Easter story. The week began with Palm Sunday, the day that Jesus was welcomed into the city of Jerusalem with cheers of “hosanna!” (which meant save us) and throwing a street party welcome fit for a king… The week we call Holy Week takes a turn as Jesus doesn’t meet their expectations. The Jesus they thought was going to liberate them from Roman rule started accusing the Temple workers… Jesus not only turned the tables but he flipped the expectations and was betrayed by one of his own disciples.
On Good Friday Jesus was killed on the cross. Burried in a tomb with a stone rolled in front of the entrance. The disciples were afraid.
Check out the Bible Project video of this part of the story:
Jesus resurrection points to a God who turns death into life. Who saves us from our sins and calls us his children. The Easter story shows us that we need to be prepared to lay down our expectations and ways of seeing the world and to let the image of Christ dying for us surprise us.
- What do you think people expected Jesus to do?
- What are some of the expectations you have of God or of life that keep you from experiencing what Jesus is up to?
- What does hope mean to you?
We thank you that you sent your Son to save us.
Help us to be shaped by the cross,
to live in a way that is full of the overflow of you love.
Help us to see the hope around us.
We are sorry for where we still fail to follow you.
