Christ Church Choristers

The only church based boy’s choir in Beckenham

The only church based boy’s choir in Beckenham

The Choristers meet to rehearse every Tuesday from 6.00 – 7.00pm at Christ Church, Fairfield Road, Beckenham. A wide repertoire of music is covered, from church music to jazz, as we perform at various different venues.

What do we do?

Over the year we sing once a month in the morning service in church, where we perform a special song for that particular Sunday.

But more than that...

We sing at concerts in the church, at the summer Choral Festival, at "Saturday Morning Music" and on the Tour.

We sing at the Beckenham Festival where we are currently the holders of the Prize Baton for Small Choirs, which we have held 7 times in the past 10 years.

We sing in conjunction with other choirs in response to invitations.

Singing

What do we sing?

Modern church songs, traditional anthems, spirituals, music from the shows, pop cantatas such as "Swinging Samson", carols etc. – the range is as wide as possible, and we are always up to date with the latest publications.

A lot of our music is learnt in preparation for... Summer tours

The Summer Tour

In the summer half-term we go away to stay in a suburb of Swansea where we combine a holiday with a series of concerts in churches and retirement homes.

This is a high spot in the choir’s timetable, and much of the music we rehearse over the year is in preparation for this series of concerts.

It is also a lot of fun!

Who can join?

Any boy aged 8 – 14 who is interested in singing is welcome to join. You do not have to be able to sing – you will learn that when you join the choir! Interest and enthusiasm are what count.

There are four Teams in the choir, each headed by a team leader who will look after you and show you the ropes.

How do I join?

You can phone the choirmaster, Christian Strover, on 8650 3313, or speak to him after a service at Christ Church; or come along to a rehearsal and try it out for yourself.
